All across the world youth becomes homeless due to several reasons. However the main reason is conflicts at home. To escape conflicts at home, there is no other option remaining for young people except to leave their homes. Some get so lucky that they are either employed, or get employment quickly after leaving their homes. Others get admission in universities and colleges to pursue their degrees. Contrary to this, some young people remain unfortunate that they cannot find any social or financial security after leaving their homes. They get no choice except to live on the streets, in the parks, or on metro terminals. These are the ones who need our help and support because they have nowhere to go and no apparent opportunities ahead of them.
History of Youth Homelessness Matters Day:
Although youth homelessness is a serious issue all around the world, it actually started in 2005 in Australia. Some individuals from the Blue Mountains region took an initiative called Blue Mountains Youth Initiative (BMYI) to help homeless youth. The BMYI is a blue mountains Region interagency that works with homeless youth in an endeavour to make sure that homeless youth are effectively helped with regards to their education, employment and other basic life opportunities.
Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2020:
Normally Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD) is celebrated on 18th of April every year. However, in the face of Covid-19 pandemic spread, the National Youth Coalition for Housing (NYCH) have decided to celebrate YHMD on 15th of April this year. Along with this announcement, the NYCH has advised all youth related services to comply with the regulations and instructions set by NSW Health, State and Federal Government. The NYCH also directed the concerned people to keep themselves from social gatherings to contain the spread of the pandemic.
On the other side, NYCH encouraged all concerned individuals and authorities to continue campaigns on the internet and social media to raise awareness of this issue and to address the concerns of the homeless youth.

What to do on Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2020:
Raise Awareness on Social Media Platforms/Social Media Campaigns:
We can run online social media campaigns on mass level to raise awareness about homelessness in youth. Due to conflicts at home of one kind or the other, young ones with age around 25 years are left with no other option other than leaving their homes and living on their own. At this age, young people are trying to become self-sufficient and to take charge of their lives, however, their parents or guardians do not let them live their life at their own terms. This might and might not be the case for everyone, of course different people have different concerns and stories, but the main issue is homelessness and that needs to be addressed on every platform.
Furthermore, amid the current scenario of the outspread of Covid-19, it is highly recommended to avoid social gatherings physically, and online platforms should be used for this purpose.
Make Shelter Arrangements for Homeless Young Persons:
Due to the outbreak of this coronavirus, it is not safe for anyone to stay outdoors. Those with resources are encouraged and recommended to accommodate homeless persons through any kind of shelter, while following all the safety precautions recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other local government bodies and authorities.
It is obvious that homeless persons lack financial resources to meet their basic needs. Financial aid will be quite helpful for these people. It will not only help them in meeting their daily requirements, but will also engender a sense of motivation in them to make their lives better.
Youth Homelessness Matters Day Quotes:
We must all work together to end youth homelessness in America. — Jewel Kilcher
In her saying, Jewel is very right because it is youth that is the future of not only the nation but the world as a whole. In every society, youth carry a most important role because they make or break a nation. So, it is the responsibility of the whole society to support and help the homeless youth not just in their survival but also their prosperity. A prosperous youth makes a prosperous society, resultantly a wonderful world to live in.
Finding your place in the world is hard when you don’t have a home.
True. When you don’t have a home you are like no one. It seems that you don’t belong to this world and that there is nothing for you. Imagine yourself to be a person who does not have a home, no job and nothing to eat. You are at the mercy of either nature or of the people. You starve for food and you don’t know whether you have your meal before going to sleep. This is really a pitisome condition and least desirable, even for a foe.
Homelessness is a grievous situation for people of every age. Your life remains at risk every instant and you never know whether you are gonna have your meal or not, let alone a healthy meal. However, young people especially below the age of 25 years are more prone to antisocial and vulgar activities that may damage their lives permanently. At this sensitive time of their age, they need proper care and direction to follow. They need to be educated properly to become able to get a secure career. Youth is an asset to society if carefully raised and shown the right direction and path. Otherwise, this same youth may prove itself to be the disaster for the society.
Let’s end this youth homelessness together!
